The Downfall of Kyle Busch and Other Anti-Chase Propaganda
Surely even the most devout loather of Kyle Busch has to feel that he is getting a bad hand with this format. Busch reeled off over a dozen wins in the first three-fourths of the season only to have freak part failure shove him to the other side of contention. So was Busch robbed by this absurd format?
Regardless of the cause Kyle Busch hasn’t been sacrificed to the Chase format gods anymore than Jeff Gordon’s career championship numbers. It doesn’t matter if it’s the old system, the new one or if the last place finisher every week goes home and they race until one guy is left. These are all reasonable ways of determining a champion for the series and if everyone has the same rulebook, then no complaints when a great season falls apart in the trenches.
100%- Odds Duane Cross and other NASCAR traditionalists will use the Kyle Busch scenario to forever cement their argument that the Chase is wrong. Of course they’d never make the same remark about the New England Patriots losing in the SuperBowl or the #1 seed Dallas Mavericks who lost to #8 seeded Golden State Warriors in the first round of the NBA playoffs a few years ago. 5%- Odds that Joey Logano’s exhibitions with Hall of Fame Racing mean anything. The cars are awful and everyone knew that before hand. Earnhardt couldn’t have gotten a top 20 out of that car. Give the kid a chance in a real car. 75%- Odds that Paul Menard’s move to Yates Racing next year is the correct move. It has sponsorship issues, but with that in mind, the cars have performed really well. Having Roush financial backing always helps. 1%- Odds that anyone cares where Paul Menard is driving next year. Immediate family excluded. 1000%- Odds that Talladega will be a fantastic show. That wasn’t a typo.
